Lincecum is the better pitcher but the choice isn't exactly so clear. Win totals have always been a huge factor. The number 20 is magic. It would be swell if Webb sucked a few more times. Also, go Dodgers. (gag) If they win the division, some of the glow comes off Webb.

I heartily approve of Lewis batting 3rd. He has decent power and is too much of a free-swinger (ie. strikes out too much) to lead off. Besides, the Giants' left fielder is supposed to hit 3rd, right?

There is nothing like being at the game to hear the crack of the bats, the concessions stand smells, and the atmosphere of the fans. No garlic fries and Gordon Biersch beer for me. I am relegated to watching the game on MLB.TV. However, I will be at the park the last week of the season in September.

Even with a loss, I enjoy watching this team and the camaraderie the players appear to share. The team has shifted to a “small ball” mentality. We just seem top be lacking that key hit at times.

There were several great plays in the loss and that is what the team needs to walk away with. Every game is a learning experience for next year. Lewis’ aggressive base running was also great. Especially since this aspect of the game had been absent from the Giants for so many years. The younger players are adjusting to big leagues and going through the growing pains. I hope we continue to keep the young players coming up.

This all bodes well for next year.

I was at this game and there were many cool moments despite the lopsided defeat. (For my report see Raising Matt Cain) One highlight which I didn't include was a very well-executed double play early in the game by our 2 rookies, Burriss & Ochoa. It was nice to see them both on the field at the same time. There were many excellent catches made by both sides, and oddities like Johnson's possibly accidental eephus pitch to Lewis.

Maybe someone who needs to be taken out of close games to protect his tender little arm is not yet worthy of the Cy Young. As much as I love the boy, last night the winner was Webb, in both the game and the Cy Young race.

You could be on to something...Timmy possibly is a god or at least a deity sent to use in order to take the Giants to the promise land. Only after being the faithfuls are tested and scarifies are made. Lincecum could possible be Caerus, the youngest child of Zeus...God of luck and opportunity. The boyish appearance is deceiving to hitters. He is lucky because, though limited, he receives the best run support. Regarding opportunity, well, his season speaks for it’s self.

Sanchez, even though he imploded last night, he has been surprisingly better that expected. The true test, “work in Progress,” is what he takes from it and bounces back in his next start.

Just a few hours till game time. Today will be a real showdown between he and Webb. Once again Lincecum needs to be able to go deep into the game in order to rest the pen and allow Wilson’s to get his 28 save of the season. We will see if Lincecum will be standing on top of Mount Olympus at the end of the day.

It would have been so sweet if Sanchez could have followed Cain's gem with a strong outing of his own, but alas, he sucked pretty badly.
Our young starters are the heart and soul of our team his year. Cain and Sanchez are "works in progress" but Lincecum appears to have sprung fully formed from the head of Zeus. Or something like that.

I completely agree that Matt is a totally class act about the lack of run support. I am confident that he is mature enough to turn these last two years into something that helps him become the superstar we can all see deep inside.

Parting with any of the veteran player on this Giants would be a difficult decision. It seems the team has really coalesced more this year, than in years past. Aurillia was one of my favorite player during his first stint with the Giants. However it is important to bring up some younger player to see what they can provide at the next level. If I had to move Aurilla, Roberts and/or Winn, in order to improve the club, I too would choose Aurilla and Roberts.

Misch has already been sent down, which leave the pen vulnerable in the area of long relief. I think Bochy wants to give Matos a greater chance to get acclimated to the big leagues. Rigetti will keep him on a short leash and allow him to take his lumps. If he does not perform he to will be sent down “to work on some things.” Not everyone can come up like Alex Hinshaw.

I agree that Winn is being shopped, since Rowand and Lewis have been so solid in the outfield. Roberts return also feeds the rumor mill. However Winn, when healthy, has provided the Giants with a productive season. We can all agree he doesn't have a big power swing but offers some stability at the plate. I do not believe Bowker, or Roberts are as strong in AT&T Park right field, with the circulating wind and architectural nuances.

I too, would like to see Schierholz brought up, because I have thought for years the importance of the “youth movement.” However, even if Winn goes, I do not think Management is ready to commit to Schierholz. They have expressed numerous time that he will not be in the dugout unless there is a full time position so he can play everyday.

I would hope that if he is traded the Giants get a more proven minor league player than the Durham trade.

Rowand, unfortunately, made Winn expendable. Rowand is signed for four more years. With Lewis earning a spot in left, we need to open another OF spot for one of our youngsters (Bowker? Schierholz?) or a power hitting prospect we can acquire via trade. Hence the necessity for trading Winn. He's a good ballplayer, someone ought to bite, we should get at least as much as we got for Durham.
